Why We Do It
Poverty and unemployment are big problems in the developing world. The situation is especially grim for those 800 million young people living on less than USD $2 a day as the limited jobs that are available tend to go to “more experienced” adults. Young people who want help themselves and their community by starting their own business and creating an income often miss out since they are seen as high risk and trouble, rather than innovative and energetic. No matter how hard they try, many young people struggle to lift themselves out of poverty.
Our Approach
We provides small loans, training and support to young entrepreneurs in the developing world, enabling young people to start their own businesses and take themselves out of poverty.
We invest funds exclusively in young people because we recognise they are not only tomorrow’s decision-makers and economic agents, but they are also individuals who can contribute greatly to development, peace and security, both at the local and global level. We believe young people have amazing skills and talents that can add value to themselves, others and the environment around them.
We see employment as an extremely important tool for the eradication of poverty. By providing young people with a job, not only do they get the opportunity to earn an income and afford vital necessities such as food, adequate shelter, medicine and education, but they are also given hope, empowerment and an opportunity to improve the regions and countries they live in.
