Role Description
The Volunteer Coordinator is a well-organized individual that possesses excellent interpersonal skills both in a group setting and on an individual basis. The successful candidate will work on developing UYDO’s volunteering framework (remotely as well as locally) for volunteers with our field partners in sub-Saharan Africa – the aim is to launch this program in late 2010. This includes but is not limited to; developing a framework for how UYDO assess volunteer applicants, support them on the ground, legal and health and safety compliance, and crisis management. We would also like to do a cost and risk assessment of managing the volunteer program versus outsourcing it to existing volunteering organisations.
Responsibilities
- Perform a risk and cost assessment of outsourcing volunteering management to a third party organisation
- Support and lead the development of UYDOs volunteering framework
- Liaise with our Field Partners in developing a framework that adds value to their work
- Liaise with our members to ensure that UYDO capitalize on their needs and develop a framework that suit their interests
- Liaise and work with partners and field partners in implementing the volunteer program
- Other special projects as assigned
- Some administrative assistance may be required
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills, especially writing and editing
- Exceptional research skills and experience with major research project, thesis, etc.
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis skills
- Extensive computer skills (Especially Microsoft Office)
- Interest in and knowledge of microfinance, finance and development issues
- Volunteering experience preferred
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and complete projects by deadline
- Detail-oriented, ability to take initiative and work independently
- Ability to work on own initiative and multitask
- Self-Starter, Team player
- Fluent in English
- Ability to work with members of different backgrounds
- Commitment to UYDO's aims and objectives
- This post is voluntary and we're ideally looking for a commitment of 7-14 hours a week for 1 year
