Shoutbox » Be creative for poverty!
Are you a young, talented artist/photographer with a passion to fight poverty?
Then UYDO needs YOU!
YOUR talent
YOUR creativity
YOUR art…
We are holding an exhibition for young, inspirational talent like you.
If you want to take part, please fill in the submission form at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/
The exhibition is called “The Lottery of Birth” will deal with the issues of development, poverty and inequality: Where you are born, through no doing of your own, has an enormous impact on your prospects in life.
We would like you to reflect upon these issues in your work, we are looking for thought provoking, innovative and inspirational art!
The United Youth Development Organization (UYDO) is not your ordinary charity. We are unique in that UYDO is fuelled primarily by young people, resulting in a fun and hugely innovative organisation.
UYDO is an international development charity that provides small loans, training and support to impoverished young people in Africa, enabling them to start their own businesses and take themselves out of poverty with their head held high. We need you to inspire others to get involved!
Why get involved?
As an artist looking to expand on your following and get your name out there it will be important for you to have your work shown at this high profile event. The exhibition will be shown at London School of Economics (LSE) and will run for a month.
In honour of this fantastic exhibition, The London School of Economics has organised a one of a kind panel discussion on the topic of 'The Lottery of Birth' led by the new Chair of African Development at LSE, Dr. Thandika Mkandawire. Dr. Mkandawire who was previously the Director of UNRISD has recently been appointed as the first chair in African Development at the London School of Economics. Joining Dr Thandika on the panel are Dr Zoe Marriage a distinguished Senior Lecturer in Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies and author of ‘Not Breaking the Rules Not Playing the Game: International Assistance to Countries at War’ along with Espen Berg, the CEO and founder of UYDO.
This will be followed by a reception in the Atrium which will provide an opportunity for guests to enjoy the exhibition and meet the artists. This gives you a chance to really impress some influential people in your industry and the world of international development. Who knows where it could lead…!
Winning work will be featured on our website, blog and promotional materials. Additionally, we will be holding an (optional) auction of ‘Lottery of Birth’ art, so you could also make a bit of money (though part of the proceeds will be donations to UYDO).
Not only this, but you will become part of something really special, UYDO is not just a charity, but a youth movement for positive social change. We want young people everywhere to say enough is enough – poverty is not ok.
We may not all have disposable cash, but here, you can donate your time and your talent, to not only help young people on the ground in Africa, but also to get others inspired to stand united against poverty, inequality and injustice.
